Active Data Protection As A Means of Counteracting New Types of Crimes

Igor Alekseevich Naumov

Valentin Georgievich Novikov

The development of new types of crimes, such as stealing, distorting, or destroying electronic data and messing up computer networks, sets essentially new tasks to law-enforcement agencies.

In counteracting the growth of crime in the information field proper, it should be remembered that the development of electronic data protection systems is always a step or two behind the improvement of methods and devices designed to overcome such protection. In a manner of speaking, data protection systems currently in use are like strongboxes of steel with back walls of cardboard.

Combating various computer crimes can be made more effective by implementing the active data protection concept.

Active data protection means a set of organizational and technical procedures to detect unauthorized access attempts and persons making such attempts and information and information-psychological counterattacks against amateur hackers and individual criminals, as well as criminal groups and organizations.
